What is Thoracic Pain?

Thoracic spine pain occurs in the mid-back region and affects up to 20% of adults annually (Briggs et al., 2009). Pain can be dull, sharp, or stiff, sometimes interfering with breathing or posture.

Common Causes

  • Poor posture, such as slouching or rounded shoulders.
  • Joint restrictions in thoracic vertebrae or ribs.
  • Muscle tension or imbalance from repetitive movements or sports.
  • Spinal deformities, including scoliosis or Scheuermann’s disease.
  • Less common causes – Osteoporosis-related fractures, referred pain from internal organs.

Treatment Options

Treatment at WCCC is tailored individually and may include:

  • Chiropractic adjustments to improve vertebral and rib mobility.
  • Soft tissue therapies – Myotherapy or remedial massage to release tension.
  • Corrective posture strategies and strengthening programs.
  • Breathing and mobility exercises.
