What is an Ankle Sprain / Strain?

Ankle sprains occur when ligaments supporting the ankle are overstretched or torn, while strains involve muscles or tendons around the joint. These injuries typically cause pain, swelling, bruising, and reduced mobility. Ankle sprains are one of the most common musculoskeletal injuries, affecting athletes and active individuals across all ages (Fong et al., 2007).

Common Causes

• Rolling or twisting the ankle during sports or daily activities.
• Uneven surfaces or improper footwear.
• Previous ankle injuries increasing susceptibility.
• Overuse or repetitive strain on ankle ligaments and tendons.

Treatment Options

WCCC management may include:

• Gentle chiropractic adjustments to restore ankle and lower limb alignment.
• Soft tissue therapy to reduce swelling, pain, and muscle tension.
• Rehabilitation exercises to restore range of motion, strength, and stability.
• Postural and biomechanical advice to prevent recurrence.
• Collaboration with medical professionals if severe ligament damage, imaging, or bracing is required.
