What is Sciatica

Sciatica is pain, tingling, numbness, or weakness radiating along the sciatic nerve, typically down one leg from the lower back or buttock. It affects 5–10% of people with low back pain and can significantly impact mobility and quality of life (Vroomen et al., 2000).

Common Causes

  • Lumbar disc herniation, compressing a spinal nerve root.
  • Spinal stenosis, narrowing the spinal canal.
  • Spondylolisthesis, vertebral slippage irritating nerves.
  • Piriformis syndrome, where the sciatic nerve is compressed by the piriformis muscle.
  • Trauma or postural stress, including prolonged sitting or improper lifting.

Treatment Options

WCCC focuses on relieving nerve compression, restoring spinal function, and improving mobility through:

  • Chiropractic adjustments to restore joint motion (Paige et al., 2022).
  • Soft tissue therapies including myotherapy and remedial massage.
  • Rehabilitation exercises targeting core and gluteal muscles.
  • Postural and ergonomic guidance.
